DON'T YOU HATE PANTS?! *flings pants across the room*. Ok hate is a very strong word. But I think we can all agree what a challenge it is to find a good pair? I remember being so picky about this even as a wee tweenager. Apologies to my mumsy for what must have been some of the worst back to school shopping adventures that a mother could ask for. I've always been more of a skirt/dress girl myself but even I know that some days you just need pants. There are so many factors in how they look/fit, and everyone's body is very different from the next. One of my biggest complaints Read More
I recently copied my very first article of clothing. Normally I design from scratch using the block method but after experimenting with a few different pairs of non stretchy pants patterns I wanted to take a page out of Deadly Dames books. Their cigarette pants are so close to perfect and I've always wanted to try copying a commercial pattern. Read More
It's been a ghost town here for more than a month but I assure you I've been busy. Let's start one project at a time though!
A while back the lovely Katryna of Boots & Cats (seriously love her blog!! So much sewspiration!!) contacted me about making some ballerina-esque tulle skirts for herself and the equally awesome Marielle. They're part of the Lux Beauty Boutique team - a great little gem on Edmonton's High Street selling all kinds of lovely skin care and cosmetics. You can read their blog about the skirts here. Back in the fall I sewed up a storm for my first ever indie market. It was exactly what I needed to push myself to get creative with my oversized fabric stash and finally make some of the design ideas in my head come to life. It was also an opportunity to test my pattern grading skills! Pattern grading was fun, nightmarish, and super satisfying all at the same time. Read More
Holy bananas friends!
2015 was a pretty zany year. It was the year of getting things done and new adventures. I feel like a whole different person than I was a year ago. I mean, I'm still Nicole but I feel like a smarter more confident version of myself. Crossing a few major things off one's to do-list will do that to a gal. I REALLY stepped out of my comfort zone this year and it's something I would encourage anyone reading this to do the same. I could go on about that but I'll skip the novel for once.
I'm now, as I always seem to be at this time of year, excited to get going on a few new endeavours. Oh and I totally re-designed my site! It looks way less 1999 now. Read More
I made a cotton candy coloured furry pink coat! Quite possibly my favourite coat that I've made yet. I'm super excited about it! And yes, it is indeed for sale! I'll have a handful of these available at the Vixens of Vintage Market in Edmonton on November 21st and 22nd!
The coat is one part "I couldn't find the fabric I had in mind" and one part "Shirley MacLaine"! Read More
Hello Again Friends!
Hope everyone had a lovely summer and are settling into fall ok. Winter may be looming but the one thing I like about our city is that there is always something to do no matter the season. Although the city streets get quiet for that first bitter cold snap (which hasn't struck yet!), after awhile we remember that hey......"WE LIVE REALLY FAR NORTH....this is totally normal!". Then we step out of our little caves in search of adventure and entertainment.
One of those things that will get you out of the house this fall and winter is the Underground Showcase at DV8. Read More
Holy hanna guys. It's been like.....forever since I posted something. Apparently it takes this gal 3.5 months to get over a Euro-hangover. I think my head is properly screwed back in place now, and I'm happy to report my sewing nook is back up and running! I have lots of goodies planned for this space so hopefully my readers are still out there. Mom? Can you see this? Good. Read More
